Comfort Zone

Stepping out of my comfort zone, especially when it comes to fashion, has always been a little hard for me. Once I find styles I love, I usually stick with them. However, this season, I’ve made it my mission to experiment more and try silhouettes, prints, etc. that I’d ordinarily avoid.

Today, I’m rocking this printed trapeze dress from ASOS Curve that I fell in love with a few months back, but was so reluctant to buy. Since I usually go for dresses that cinch at the waist, the idea of this voluminous dress with a very bold print made me a bit nervous. Nevertheless, when it went on sale, I finally took the plunge. After all, there’s nothing like a sale to give a girl a little incentive.

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised about how much I loved this dress on me. The print is great and I actually really adore the shape. It’s also super comfy and, for $42, it was a great buy.

Style Notes: I love this dress now, but, in my usual size, the fit was way off. The bust and armhole were far too tight so I had to order it two sizes up. The neckline was also a bit awkward so it had to be adjusted quite a bit. Additionally, the dress was very long on me (I’m 5’4). I had it shortened about 6 or so inches and leveled the hemline a bit (it was originally more high/low). It seems like a lot of work, but it was definitely worth it in the end.
